In 2006, hurling helmet safety standards were first introduced. It became compulsory for all players under the age of 18 to wear a helmet while playing a hurling match. In 2010, it became compulsory for all players to wear a helmet with a faceguard in matches and training. This rule came into effect for camogie in 2011. All helmets had to pass the NSAI IS 355 safety standard test. Helmets that pass this test have a stamp across the back of the helmet. Any helmet without this stamp does not pass the test and you are not insured in the event of an injury.
